Survey ‘extensive’

THE community consultation process for the Yanchep “sky bridge” boardwalk has been the most extensive ever undertaken by the City of Wanneroo, Mayor Jon Kelly says.

The focus of the process is a questionnaire devised by an independent marketing firm, asking Yanchep residents for their views on the controversial walkway.

Surveys were posted on January 27, but several residents have not yet received one.

The City has attracted criticism for sending the survey to people on the electoral roll rather than to ratepayers, but Mr Kelly said everyone who qualified would get a form.

“There will always be a few people who do not get surveys in the first round, and the actual number of people who have been left out is about 0.1 per cent,” he said.

“At the moment, we are working to ensure that all those who are eligible receive one.

“This is a very thorough process and we have allowed a lot of time and money to enable us to do this properly.

“It is the most thorough community consultation that we have ever done and we have gone to great lengths to make sure this is done right.”

In addition to the survey, the City has organised a series of information sessions and placed coloured posts at the boardwalk site to show alternative options for the walkway route.

Residents who want a copy of the survey form can call 9405 5000.
