MOTORISTS have been urged to take extra precautions on the road this afternoon with a fierce thunderstorm expected to hit metropolitan Perth.

A storm cell, including damaging winds, large hail and flash flooding, is expected to hit Perth about 4pm.

The Fire and Emergency Services Authority has advised drivers to reduce their speed should they encounter storm conditions.

They are also asked to drive with their headlights on and to keep a safe distance from other vehicles.

If visibility is bad, motorists should pull over until conditions improve.
