A DANCING group in the Fremantle area is providing a way to empower women through music, friendship and dance.

The dancers from Free Spirit Dance Community have transformed classrooms at South Fremantle High School into a studio, named after their late friend and dancer Betsy Watkins.

The group specialises in a variety of dance styles such as belly dance, slow yoga, Bollywood, jazz classes for children aged between five and 13, and pixie and pirate classes for children aged up to five.

Free Spirit Dance Community chairwoman Richelle Spencer said anyone from two to 90 who wanted to dance was welcome.

“It is purely for fun, friendship and freedom and getting people off their bums to do something,” she said.

Classes vary from $5 to $10 per session.
