ROCKINGHAM Wild Encounters’ Terry Howson had a ‘fantastic’ start to the dolphin season before it even began.

Last week, the Swim with Wild Dolphins tour was named by radio station 94.5FM in its list of the top 10 things to do in Perth.

The result came after listeners voted for places new producer Geoff Jein, who has recently arrived from England, should visit.

“I got to take Captain Paul and Geoff for the first swim of the season, something our crew looks forward to every year,” Terry said.

“We haven’t been out over the winter months, so the dolphins are usually really stoked to see us.

“There were 40 or so dolphins out there and it went really, really well.

“Captain Paul was like a little kid in a lolly shop.”

Penguin Island narrowly missed making the top 10, coming in at 13th.

“In the same week, Getaway played a repeat of the segment when Megan Gale went swimming with the dolphins, so we’ve had an increase in inquiries from that too.”

Rockingham Wild Encounters has four boats, which also take visitors to Penguin Island and for dolphin watching tours.

Terry has run the business for more than 22 years and said he still loved his job.

“I still get an absolute kick out of going out and swimming with the dolphins,” he said.

“I don’t think anyone could ever get sick of it.”
