THE report about the lemon scented gum threatened with destruction in Woodlands is about a family originally from the country who take great pride in wishing to retain their tree intact.
It provides shade in summer and reduces temperatures on hot days, soaks up carbon, reduces evaporation from adjacent gardens, makes the house and suburb (Woodlands) more aesthetically pleasing and provides sanctuary to native birds and other wildlife from an otherwise inhospitable landscape.
People such as Dale need encouragement and support in an age when people are becoming too selfish about saving anything that is part of the natural landscape.
I also have a pool with messy trees but these days there are innovations in pool technology and one of these innovations is called a pool cover; so why can’t the residents use one?
Do we chop down all remaining trees across every suburb in Perth, including Kings Park, because they may be messy or unsafe, and do we stop playing golf or going to local parks because a tree may drop a limb on us?
How many people have been killed by trees compared to people killed by cars? Do we ban cars from roads?
Leave the natural world alone.
