IT is early on a Thursday evening at the Silk Road Restaurant and guests occupy every table on the terrace.
The sea breeze has just come in and the weather is perfect for alfresco wining and dining.
Affable waiters attend to each patron, offering artfully arranged meals that could best be described as a modern, healthy echo of Asia’s favourite dishes.
For entree, the peking duck wraps are a popular choice.
A stylised version of a famous Chinese delicacy, the wraps are served with slivers of spring onion, hoi sin sauce and fresh cucumber to draw out the flavour of the perfectly cooked duck.
One main meal combines a generous portion of tender squid wok-fried in a salt and pepper batter with hand carved vegetables and udon noodles, and the vegetarian char kway teow is light and fresh.
There is also an enticing degustation menu available, comprised of five courses with matching wines.
As further testament to The Silk Road’s belief in healthy eating, there is a wide selection of vegetarian and gluten-free options and antioxidant-rich Himalayan goji juice available.
Guests can choose from a vast beverage list with wines from New Zealand and WA’s southern regions.
Winner of the 2009 Gold Plate for Best Licensed Asian Dining, The Silk Road Restaurant is an absolute must-visit for anyone who loves fine Asian cuisine.
