THOUSANDS of people packed the Toodyay showgrounds on Saturday to join in the fun of the Hope from Ashes benefit concert.
Despite the 40-degree heat, headline acts Adam Harvey and Angry Anderson wooed the crowd on the main stage, as rock bands the Novocaines and Homebrewe brought crowds to their feet with their high-energy performances.
Bands weren't the only acts pleasing the crowds. Several local dance companies kept the smaller stage heaving with excitement too.
Organiser Lee Street said the event ran very smoothly despite an enormous effort to get it ready on time.
“Toodyay has had nothing like this before. An event like this normally takes nine to 12 months to organise,” she said.
“To pull it off in four weeks took a miracle. A lot of people offered to help.”
Mrs Street said that more than 1500 people had poured through the gates by 4.30pm and that at least 3000 had been expected as the bar opened at 5pm.
Ticket sales were capped at 5000 people.
The total amount raised has yet to be confirmed, but Mrs Street was hopeful that door, food and band merchandise sales would have raised thousands.
